LUBE OIL ANALYSIS & FERROGRAPHY

LUBE OIL ANALYSIS & FERROGRAPHY

Oil Analysis (OA) has become an indispensable tool in evaluating the Machinery health condition. Its equivalent of doing a “Blood Analysis” in Human body.

In the Laboratory analysis is being done on the Oil Samples collected from machines, to measure the Lubricant’s properties, suspended contaminants, and wear debris.

Oil Analysis can be divided into 3 categories:

1. Analysis of Oil properties including those of the base oil and its additives.

2. Analysis of Contaminants,

3. Analysis of Wear Debris from Machinery.

FERROGRAPHY is a specialized type of oil analysis used to study Particle wear on machine components through analysis of contaminants in lubricating oil. Ferrography is related to tribology, which is the study of friction between interacting surfaces.

BENEFITS OF OIL ANALYSIS

• Enhance equipment life and reliability by ensuring proper lubrication and detecting issues such as excessive wear and contamination.

• Extend Lubricant life by monitoring its condition and when deemed necessary, treating or cleaning it, typically allowing for longer intervals between fluid changes.

• Reduce equipment downtime by spotting and correcting potential lubrications problems before they become serious issues.
